‘Alienated’ Had A Good Launch But Couldn’t Land

Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.

Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.

Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no human boy is this good-looking.

But when Cara’s classmates get swept up by anti-L’eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn’t safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara’s locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.

Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she’s fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life—not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.

Rose-Worthy Features

I really like reading about Cara! She was such a driven and ambitious character and I loved that. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind especially when things start to get rough with the people at her school. She was caring and so incredibly loyal. She had her whole town turn against her but she still stuck by Aelyx.

If you’ve ever seen the tv show Star-Crossed, the plot is very similar to the tv show. A group of aliens comes to earth to make an alliance. I liked how everyone reactions to the aliens were all different, there were fan clubs and there were hate groups. The different reactions made the book, feel a little more genuine.

The romance between Cara and Aelyx was my favorite! They were friends before they started liking each other and I loved that. It was so sweet to see how much they cared about each other. They both sacrificed so much to be together.

Thorny Features

There were some parts of the book that were a little cliché and things that I just saw coming. I didn’t mind that much because towards the end there was one twist I didn’t see coming.

One thing I wasn’t a big fan was that there were times where the author would skim over, something that happened. For example, in the beginning of the book Cara and Aelyx played chess for the very first time but the author didn’t write the scene but mentioned it a lot throughout the chapter.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I rate this book a 4 out of 5. I loved the relationship between Cara and Aelyx and I found the plot to be entertaining and suspenseful. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a soft spot for alien romance books. This is the first book off Out of This World Books. I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, you’ve just been reviewed.
