“House of Darken” by Jaymin Eve

“When Emma moves to Astoria, Oregon, she is given two rules:

#1 – Don’t cross to “their” side of the street.

#2 – Don’t mess with the elites, especially Lexen Darken, top elite and resident bad boy.

While she finds this both weird and insulting, Emma has no actual intention of breaking these rules – until her guardians go missing. Now all bets are off. Only a single line separates her side of the street from the elites’, and she’s crossing it.

Captured and held by Lexen and his brothers, she learns the rules are in place for a very good reason. There’s a secret world hidden in this small town which goes far beyond the one she knows and understands.

A world not for humans.”

Rose-Worthy Features

I’ll admit, when deciding which book to read this week this book immediately caught my eye because of the pretty cover but once I read the description I was intrigued. I was curious about what supernatural being the Darken brothers were so I read the book and found out!

One thing that I really loved about this book were the characters. Emma’s personality was hilarious and I loved how complete opposites her and Lexen were. Lexen was a major snob when I first read about him but as I continued reading I began to like him more. The Darken brothers were all different and unique, plus who doesn’t love that overprotective brother moment. This book definitely had a few of those.

Who doesn’t love aliens? I am definitely an alien romance book lover ever since I read ‘Obsidian’ by Jennifer L. Armentrout. This book there were aliens but with a little fantasy twist. It was interesting and I think because it had that fantasy twist it made this book a little bit different from other alien romance books.

The romance in this book was great! It started out as a love hate relationship but developed into something more. There were lots of sweet moments that made me happy and I found it really entertaining When Emma and Lexen fought.

The storyline was engaging. It kept me interested and was interesting to read the whole time. There was never a dull moment while reading this book.

Be prepared for LOTS of twist. I’m an absolute sucker for plot twist so enjoyed each and every twist that the author threw at me!

Thorny Features

The only thing I wasn’t a big fan of were that the action scenes weren’t that long and engaging. I feel like I would start the action scene and as soon as it started it would end. I feel like I could put this book on pause and then go back because it just wasn’t that interesting.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I rate this a 4 out of 5. This book is definitely not a bad. It was interesting and engaging to read. I liked reading about the Darken family and how they were all so different. This book was fun and I definitely recommend reading it because it was a nice light hearted read. It had that Gossip Girl prep school vibe, with family drama like The Originals but just add aliens and boom that’s “House of Darken” for ya. I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, you’ve just been reviewed.
