“I made the wrong choice.”

Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, but she isn’t in the mood for Italy’s famous sunshine and fairy-tale landscape. She’s only there because it was her mother’s dying wish that she get to know her father. But what kind of father isn’t around for sixteen years? All Lina wants to do is get back home.

But then she is given a journal that her mom had kept when she lived in Italy. Suddenly Lina’s uncovering a magical world of secret romances, art, and hidden bakeries. A world that inspires Lina, along with the ever-so-charming Ren, to follow in her mother’s footsteps and unearth a secret that has been kept for far too long. It’s a secret that will change everything she knew about her mother, her father—and even herself.

People come to Italy for love and gelato, someone tells her, but sometimes they discover much more.”

Rose- Worthy Features

Italy, oh Italy, how amazing it would be to go to Italy! This book is full of vivid descriptions of actual destinations in Italy! I felt like a tourist during some scenes and even found myself looking up pieces of art or destinations that this book mentioned. I loved the authentic Italian feel that I got while reading this book. It made me feel happy! This summer I plan on staying in Texas so it was nice to read about gorgeous Italy.

I loved the diary entries from Lina’s mom! The book follows Lina as the moves to Italy after her mother’s death. I loved the thought of Lina experiencing Italy and everything it has to offer with her mom. Reading the diary entries even inspired me to start journaling again!

The romance between Ren and Lina was adorable! Everyone loves a cute buddy to boyfriend relationship and that was exactly their relationship. Ren and Lina went on adventures together, laughed together, cried together, all in the spam of five days and a lot happened in five days.

When it comes to writing reviews I always try my best to be as honest as possible and not leave any of my thoughts out. That being said it did take me a while to really get into this book. It started out a little slow and after the first couple pages I was convinced that I wasn’t going to like this book, but luckily the plot started change and as it did so did my thoughts on this book. As soon as Lina read her first diary entry, I was hooked. So much changed and it made the book less about Lina exploring Italy and more about who her dad really is and what her mom was hiding.

Lina was an interesting main character. I feel like throughout the book I really got to see all sides of her, when she was happy, sad, this book really explored all the different emotions of Lina. She was curious and wasn’t afraid to speak her mind but you also see her vulnerable and cautious.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I rate this book a 5 out of 5. Even though the beginning was a little rocky for me I’m still rating this book 5 stars because when the plot did speed up, I couldn’t put it down. I had a tennis tournament while I was reading this book and I kept the book in my tennis bag. As soon as I got back to the hotel I got back to reading. I loved being able to read about Italy and hopefully (cross my fingers) I will be able to travel to Italy and eat LOTS of gelato. Let me know in the comments if you have read this book! Did you like? What was your favorite part? I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, you’ve just been reviewed.
