Only a true best friend can protect you from your immortal enemies . . .

Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing the earth’s magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires – the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa’s best friend, makes her a dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.

After two years of freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir’s Academy, a school for vampire royalty and their guardians-to-be, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. But inside the iron gates, life is even more fraught with danger . . . and the Strigoi are always close by.

Rose and Lissa must navigate their dangerous world, confront the temptations of forbidden love, and never once let their guard down, lest the evil undead make Lissa one of them forever . . .”

Rose-Worthy Features

Probably my favorite thing from this book was Rose and Lisa’s friendship! It was so sweet! I loved how protective they were of each other and how much they cared about each other. It was clear that they both valued each other.

Oh my god, the relationship! Ahh! I loved how different both relationships were and how perfect they were. First off Rose and Dimitri had A LOT of chemistry. Dimitri is helping Rose catch up on her training and its clear from the beginning that they have an attraction for each other. I loved how different there personalities were, with Rose being very sarcastic and Dimitri being stone-faced. Now as much as I loved reading about Rose and Dimitri my favorite relationship was by far Lissa and Eric. They were both royalty and are both considered outcasts. I loved how Eric was more on the dangerous side while Lisa was more innocent and sweet. Just like Rose and Dimitri, I love how Eric and Lisa’s personalities were opposites. I think opposite personalities in a relationship make the relationship more interesting and in this book it did.

Again, I LOVE plot twist and I think the end of this book was the ultimate plot twist. I didn’t expect it or see it coming.

Most of the plot was watching Lisa get darker and darker and become more consumed by magic and I loved it! I think reading about Lisa’s character change was probably my favorite part of this book. There were also lots of different moments where I was completely intrigued. Especially with all the different magic aspects.

If you couldn’t tell by now, I liked both Lisa and Rose. I think both of their personalities developed as the book went on and now that I think about they were kind of like Damon and Stephen from The Vampire Diaries. Rose being sarcastic like Damon and Lisa being the calm one like Stephen.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I rate this book a 5 out of 5. I honestly don’t have anything to complain about. This book was highly entertaining and I recommend reading it.
