“After a Vampire Tracker Marks her with a crescent moon on her forehead, 16-year-old Zoey Redbird enters the House of Night and learns that she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess Nyx and has affinities for all five elements: Air, Fire Water, Earth and Spirit. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school’s most elite club, is mis-using her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny – with a little help from her new vampyre friends (or Nerd Herd, as Aphrodite calls them)”

Rose- Worthy Features

I know I say this a lot but I liked the idea of this book. It sounded interesting, a boarding school where vampires go to grow, boom interest captured, but sadly that is the only thing that this book captured for me.

Thorny Features

Sadly, there are more dislikes then likes for this book, one of them being the main character, Zoey. It was like she was trying to be this badass heroine but she just seemed like an annoying teenager to me. I could see how she was trying to be relatable, the outcast, who finds out she has a toxic best friend and then an annoying boyfriend but reading about Zoey made my head hurt.

The plot was a major cliché. The outcast trying to take down the bratty popular girl, who would have guessed it. I feel like because the plot was so cliché I didn’t even need to finish the book. I already knew how it was going to end. There were no surprises or twists that made this book different from any other book.

To make things even more cliché, of course, Zoey catches the attention of the hottest guy in school, Eric. Uhh, clichés how I love and hate you. I think this cliché romance would have been better if it was more involved in the book. I feel like I only got to read about Eric for a couple of chapters. If he was more involved in the book I would have liked the romance a lot more.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I rate this book a 1 out of 5. This book was not for me. Not one bit. This book is 206 pages and it took me almost a month to finish, I’ve finished 400-page books in a day before. This book took a lot of energy to finish which made a lot less enjoyable. I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, you’ve just been reviewed.
